Submarine cable to link Andamans on its way to Singapore

Port Blair, Jan 13: A submarine cable will be laid from Digha in West Bengal to Singapore & Malasiya connecting Hut Bay, Car Nicobar, Kamorta & Campbell Bay through its branching. This was informed by the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology while answering a question raised by the Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray in the recently concluded session of the Lok Sabha. It was also informed that the joint venture project involving Millenium and Telecom Limited (MTL), a joint venture company of MTNL & BSNL will cost an estimated 234 million US Dollar and is likely to be completed in a period of 3½ years from the date of award of contract. While the estimated cost of the spur route proposed by the Govt. under budgetary support is Rs.52,206 crores. The written reply to the MP said that the proposed network will enable the defence forces to shift certain wireless links working in the coordinated frequency band to this network.
