Labour Commissioner Instructs Employers to Pay Fixed Min. Wages |

Port Blair, Feb 1: The Labour Commissioner has asked the employers of all establishments to ensure payment of minimum wages fixed by the A&N Administration to their workmen failing which legal action will be initiated against the default employers as per the provisions of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, a communication received here said.
Meanwhile, The Labour Inspector on behalf of the Trade Union has filed claim application against the Coconut Farming Society before the Court of Authority i.e Labour Commissioner appointed under section 20 of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948 alleging the payment of less than the minimum rates of wages fixed by the A&N Administration to the 31 unskilled workmen employed in the society.
On being heard the parties concerned, the court of authority has ordered the default Coconut Framing Society to make payment of Rs.1,98,120/- being the actual difference in payment of the minimum wages fixed by the Administration to the workmen. Accordingly, the Coconut Farming Society has paid claim amount to the workmen in the presence of the Labour Inspector and President, Trade Union.
