Port Blair, March 5: A special team led by SI Sahil Shamsuddin of Andaman and Nicobar Police arrested Mr. Ugochukwu Christian (32 yrs), S/o Ozoibgo, a Nigerian national, T/o Vastal Vihar, Uttam Nagar (W), New Delhi in a cheating case of PS Bambooflat on 2.3.2010 at Delhi.
A complaint was received from a resident of Wimberlygunj in September 2009 mentioning that he received a SMS stating he won an amount of 200,000 US Dollars from the ‘Atlas World Mobile Draw’ and he was asked to deposit some amount to get the above lottery money. He deposited Rs. 87,700/- as per the directions received through e-mails subsequently and the same was withdrawn through an ATM in Mumbai. On receipt of the complaint, a case of cheating was registered at PS Bambooflat and investigation was entrusted to SI Sahil Shamsuddin. After making initial investigations, SI Sahil Shamsuddin arrested one Mahesh Israil on 6.11.2009 who had withdrawn the money in Mumbai. He was brought from Mumbai to Port Blair and produced before the court. He is currently on interim bail at Port Blair.
Due to sustained and vigorous efforts of SI Sahil Shamsuddin, it was established that the fake e-mails were sent to the victim from Delhi. Hence, SI Sahil Shamsuddin along with HC R.P. Yadav, PC Jugal Kishore proceeded to Delhi and conducted further investigations. In Delhi the main accused of the case a Nigerian national, who sent the SMS and e-mails to the victim was located. After collecting incriminating evidence, the master mind of the cheating case Mr. Ugochukwu Christian, a Nigerian national was arrested from Mayur Vihar phase-II area, near Neelam Mata Mandir, New Delhi on 2.3.2010. Ugochukwu was produced before the Hon’ble Court of Metropolitan Magistrate, Karkardooma, New Delhi from where the accused was remanded to police custody upto 8.3.2010. Further investigation is on and more arrests are likely, police sources informed. |
