Port Blair, March 8: Coast Guard Ship Akkadevi, while on patrol apprehended Srilankan fishing boat Sachin II for unauthorized fishing in Indian Exclusive Economics Zones. The CG Ship under command of Lt Commander Amit Tiwari sighted Srilankan Boat west of Carnicobar engaged in fishing and dispatched boarding party to investigate the boat .Blue and white hulled motorised boat is 15 meter in length and having fishing line/ floats & hooks intended for tuna fishing.

The Srilankan fishing boat was boarded by Coast Guard armed boarding party and found actively involved in illegal fishing, therefore boat was apprehended alongwith six crew members. It may be recalled that Coast Guard has increased surveillance in Andaman Sea which has resulted in apprehension of Srilankan boat.

The boat is being brought to Port Blair on 09 March 10 for handing over to police. However, a joint interrogation will be undertaken on arrival. Prima- facie, it appears that the boat was in Indian water for intended illegal fishing. However the exact reason will be ascertained only after joint interrogation is completed. It is yet another apprehension of foreign fishing boat by Coast Guard.
