Port Blair, Feb. 5: Shri Ranjit Vikram Savarkar, Chairman of Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak, Mumbai today demanded that Andaman & Nicobar Islands, where Swatanryaveer Savarkar and his elder brother Babarao Savarkar faced inhuman tortures and suffering along with thousands of armed revolutionaries in India, should be declared as National pilgrimage.

Shri  Arun Joshi, President of  Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak and  Mrs. Manjiri  Marathe, Treasurer were present along with eight delegates from Smarak.

“Government should subsidize the travelling costs so that all Indians can visit this Place. In addition, Government should construct a Tourist Home in order to provide these pilgrims a lodging and boarding at affordable rates”, Ranjit Savarkar said.

Millions have sacrificed their lives for our freedom. However, it seems that their martyrdom is being diminished from our memories. History has proven that the Nations who forget their martyrs are deemed to be ruined. Therefore, if we wish our Nation to be strong and happy, our young generation must know their martyrs; they must know the freedom they are enjoying has been earned through the blood, shed by our millions of martyrs, then only we can look up to a flourishing Nation. And only one name represent these millions of Martyrs; and that is “Andaman”. That’s why patriotic population all over the country looks towards Andaman as National Pilgrimage.

Swatantryaveer Savarkar, while suffering the hell of “Kala Pani” proclaimed that, this Land now known as Kala Pani, a living hell for the revolutionaries, will be treated in future by millions of free Indians as a National pilgrimage. And therefore in order to fulfil the wishes of the patriotic citizens of India, Andaman should be immediately declared as National Pilgrimage.

Ranjit Savarkar further added that there is another special reason for this. On one hand, the mainland India is presently divided on the basis of religion, cast, creed and language; Only in Andaman we see a society, which has raised itself above all these paltry issues and thereby recognizing only our Nationalism as their sole identity. This is a lesson that all Indians have to learn from Andaman. And that’s why now it’s more important than ever, that Main Land Indians should visit Andaman, carry the positive inspirations with them back and work in order to gain our lost glory.
