May Day Procession Taken Out by INTUC

It will be my endeavour to take up issues and grievances of the workers for its logical and legitimate end: Kuldeep 

Port Blair, May 1: To commemorate the struggle & sacrifice made by the workers over the years and to express the solidarity of the workers the INTUC today brought out a procession on the occasion of the ‘May Day’. The procession was attended by the Union affiliated to INTUC, Congress Party functionaries, PRI’s and general public. The procession started from INTUC Office, Gandhi Bhavan under the leadership of Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, INTUC passing through the Mahatma Gandhi’s statue where the leaders offered their homage by garlanding the statue of ‘Mahatma Gandhi’. The procession culminated at Gandhi Bhavan after passing through the Aberdeen Bazaar, Atul Smrity Samity.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma acknowledged the unity and faith expressed by the workers under the banner of INTUC. He expressed the need of further strengthening the trade union activities in the Islands particularly in the unorganized and private sector to combat various issue arising out of changing socio-economic scenario of the Island. He assured the workers that it shall always be his and the endeavour of INTUC to take up issues and grievances of the workers for its logical and legitimate end.

The gathering was also addressed by Shri Hamid Ali, Vice President INTUC, Shri M.Z Siddique, General Secretary, INTUC, Shri Gyan Prakash Krishna, General Secretary, INTUC, Smt. Shanta Laxman Singh, Miss Mariyam Bibi and General Secretary, Maine Employees Union, Shri Mohd.

May Day procession of INTUC was also brought out at Kamorta, under the leadership of Shri M. Raju. Similarly May Day procession of INTUC was also brought out at Rangat, Mayabunder under the leadership of Shri M. Anand Rao, General Secretary, INTUC, a communication from Gandhi Bhawan said here.

Disaster Warning Sirens

Port Blair, May 1: The general public have been informed that Disaster Warning Sirens has been installed in the premises of Secretariat Port Blair, Assistant Commissioner Office, Nancowry, Rajeev Nagar Campbell Bay and Deputy Commissioner Office, Car Nicobar. The sirens have been installed to alert the general public during any disaster which is blown at high pitch/volume. The siren will be blown in the following manner during occurrence of the disaster:

The siren will be tested on 3rd and 18th of every month at 1000 hrs. During the tests, the siren will be blown for two successive blasts for 30 seconds. Siren of other department will also be blown in a similar manner at 1OOO hrs.

Therefore, the general public is informed not to panic during the test of siren and requested to maintain calm on the date and time specified above.
