Rocky Shores: Barnacle: related to crabs, shrimps, and lobsters. Soft-bodies animals with a hard shell that is attached to rocks by its head. Feeds during high tide by kicking out feathery legs to trap plankton.
Limpet: soft-bodies animals with a cone-shaped shell. Holds on to rocks and roots with its foot. Feeds during high tide by moving across rocks and scraping up algae.
Hermit Crab:crab with a soft body and no hard covering. Lives in an empty shell and moves along carrying it. Withdraws body completely into shell at the sign of danger. Crab has a hard outer skeleton and soft abdomen.
Peacock Seaweed:A kind of algae. Body is fan shaped and tough. Attached by a device called holdfast to its base.
Brittle Star:A kind of sea star. Hides in rocky crevices during high tide. Feeds on barnacles and clams.
