Port Blair, Aug. 5: Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament has requested the A&N Administration to Repeal/ Cancel the Notification declaring Buffer Zone around Jarawa Tribal Reserve, vide their Notification No. 234/2007/F. No. 1-752/2007/TW dated 30-10-2007.

In his letter to the Lt. Governor dated 2-08-2010, Ray emphasized that the proposal of establishing buffer Zone within Jarawa area is going to be one of the most disastrous proposal as more than 31 historically villagers, which have been in existence for more than 60 years (Settlers) and even more than 140 years in case of pre 1942 (Penal Settlements) in Ferrergunj, Rangat and Mayabunder Tehsils.

As the idea of buffer Zone might be forced upon the A&N Administration from outside agencies without making consultation with the offices of the Administration, the Member of Parliament hoped that under the able guidance of the Lt. Governor, the efficient officers of the Administration will be able to conclude and apply more concrete and effective measures for the welfare of the Jarawas in consonance with the welfare of the settled villagers.
